Los Cristos Negros de Honduras
Llegados a determinadas poblaciones como
obsequio de los Reyes de España-- que acompañaron a los colonizadores
españoles durante siglos han servido para alimentar la fe de las personas
que vienen profesando la fe católica. En algunos municipios del país existen

imágenes del Cristo Negro que desde tiempos inmemoriales los convirtieron
en su Santo Patrón. Los Cristos Negros son conocidos con diferentes
nombres, pero la fe y la devoción es la misma. Durante todo el mes de
enero, el regocijo folkórico y la fe invaden los corazones de los fieles
que llegan de lugares lejanos a estos templos a pagar las promesas
hechas solemnemente en sus corazones agradecidos.
Desde 1988, la Iglesia Católica de El Progreso celebra todos los
13, 14 y 15 de enero esta festividad.
En el trayecto que comienza desde el desvío de Arena Blanca se
colocan las mantas que detallan las 14 estaciones en el recorrido de
la procesión, que culminan en el templo del Cristo Negro en el
centro de esta localidad.
En el lugar se celebra la tradicional misa a la que asiste el arzobispo
de Yoro y los habitantes promueven las artesanías que ellos mismos elaboran.
