 21 de diciembre del 2012. Sin embargo, este misterio
será utilizado para atraer turistas al país.
Las Ruinas de Copán serán exhibidas ante el mundo
como uno de los principales destinos turísticos del
momento al acercarse 2012, año que para algunos
representa el fin de la humanidad en la Tierra.
Nelly Jerez, titular de la Secretaría de Turismo,
manifestó que a nivel del Gobierno se trabaja en
la coordinación de una campaña orientada a promover

a las Ruinas de Copán como el principal destino de científicos,
estudiantes y turistas de todo el mundo durante el año 2012.
“El objetivo es llamar la atención, queremos que los ojos del
mundo se vuelvan a esa ciudad mágica de tanto misticismo
como lo es Copán Ruinas, en este caso específicamente a la
zona arqueológica, la parte de la acrópolis donde estaban los
grandes sacerdotes, donde la civilización maya tuvo su gran
resplandor”, dijo Jerez. Se estima que la promoción de las Ruinas
de Copán como destino para 2012 podría atraer a más de un millón
de turistas a Honduras que estarían generando cuantiosos ingresos
al país.
